Milton Main Street update for 20 November 2023
The upgrade of pipes under Milton’s main street will have impacts for traffic between 20-24 November.
Our contractors have finished the work at Osian Street and have started working on Union Street at the Ossian Street intersection. There will be stop/go delays on SH1, Union Street for two days, and traffic will be reduced to one lane to allow for contractors to lay pipe across the main street.
Ossian Street is closed to traffic from Union Street for the next week.
There is a reduced speed of 30km through the section of works.
Once the work at the intersection is completed, they will then continue north along the west side of Union Street towards the Edward Street intersection. Traffic will be able to travel in both directions on Union Street but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Pedestrian access to shops will still be available. Both lanes will have reduced speed of 30km through the section of works.
Temporary footpaths will be available for pedestrians.
Milton Main Street update for 10 November 2023
The upgrade of pipes under Milton’s main street will have minor impacts for traffic between 10-17 November.
Our contractors are working on the west side of the Ossian and Union Street intersection. Ossian Street is closed to traffic from Union Street and will be closed for the next two weeks. They are also repairing the foul sewer pipe in Ossian Street.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions on Union Street but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Pedestrian access to shops will still be available. Both lanes will have reduced speed of 30km through the section of works.
Temporary footpaths will be available for pedestrians.
Milton Main Street update for 3 November
The upgrade of pipes under Milton’s main street will have minor impacts for traffic between 3-10 November.
They will then continue north along the west side of Union Street towards the Edward Street intersection.
The shoulder from the Edward Street intersection on Union St to the pedestrian crossing, adjacent to the Presbyterian Church, will be closed and should be reinstated by Tuesday.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions on Union Street but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Pedestrian access to shops will still be available. Both lanes will have reduced speed of 30km through the section of works.

Ossian St will be closed from the RSA carpark to Union St intersection with no access from Union St. This will be in place for at least next week but may be longer as we work to repair the sewer that has been laid.

Our Contractor has started work in Arthur Street laying stormwater pipe, working towards Arthur Street. Arthur Street was closed but will reopen today.
They will then continue north along the west side of Union Street towards the Ossian Street intersection.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions on Union Street but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Work is continuing in 50 metre sections east side of Union Street between Eden St and Abercrombie St. They will be working on this block for the next two weeks which will complete the stormwater works on the east side of Union Street.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.

Work is continuing in 50 metre sections from Eden Street heading north towards Abercrombie Street.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.

The upgrade of pipes under Milton’s main street will have minor impacts for traffic between 2-6 October.
Work is continuing in 50 metre sections from Eden Street heading north towards Abercrombie Street.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Pedestrian access to shops will still be available. Both lanes will have reduced speed of 30km through the section of works.
Contractors are also finalising work regarding raising the manhole lids at the northern end of Union street, Milton which they hope to be finished by Tuesday next week.
The work started at the Melville Street intersection and will proceed southwards along Union street to Springfield Road.
This will involve a 30km/hr speed restriction. Two-way traffic will be maintained however, parking will be restricted on Union Street due to a live traffic lane shift to use the parking lane.
To minimise disruption the work will proceed in 200m sections at a time and is scheduled to be completed prior to school returning for the fourth term.
Update for 22-29 September
The upgrade of pipes under Milton’s main street will have minor impacts for traffic between 22-29 September.
Work is continuing in 50 metre sections from Gray to Eden Street.
Access to Shakespeare Street intersection will be open this week.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Pedestrian access to shops will still be available. Both lanes will have reduced speed of 30km through the section of works.
Contractors will also commence work on Monday 25 September to raise manhole lids at the northern end of Union street, Milton.
The work will start at the Melville Street intersection and proceed southwards along Union street to Springfield Road.

Work is continuing in 50 metre sections and has reached the Shakespeare Street intersection.
Access to Shakespeare St will be open over the weekend but will have some restriction exiting into Union St, in particular no left turn due to visibility restrictions.
Shakespeare St will be closed again from Monday morning until it can be safely reopened later in the week when contractors will continue towards the Eden St intersection.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Pedestrian access to shops will still be available.

The work on High Street has been completed and is open.
Update for 11-17 September
The upgrade of pipes under Milton’s main street will have minor impacts for traffic between 11-17 September.
Work is continuing in 50 metre sections, moving north from Ossian Street to Shakespeare Street.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Pedestrian access to shops will still be available. Both lanes will have reduced speed of 30km through the section of works.
Our contractor expects to reach the intersection by mid next week when they will need to close the Shakespeare St intersection to lay the new pipe. There will be no right turns to or from Union St to Shakespeare and Gray Streets or from these streets to Union St.
Vehicle access to Shakespeare St and the supermarket will be from Spenser St.
Temporary footpaths will be available for pedestrians.
Arthur St will be closed Monday morning until Tuesday lunchtime to prepare and seal the work completed so far. Access for residents will be from Union St.
Construction of the new manhole over the old brick culvert at the intersection of High Street and Johnson Street will continue however, traffic flow is not affected.
Update for 4-10 September
The upgrade of pipes under Milton’s main street will have minor impacts for traffic between 4-10 September.
Work is continuing on 50 metre sections, moving north from Ossian Street to Shakespeare Street. This is expected to be the work area for around three weeks.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Pedestrian access to shops will still be available. Both lanes will have reduced speed of 30km through the section of works.
There will be no right turns to or from Union St to Shakespeare and Gray Streets or from these streets to Union St when work reaches this intersection.
Vehicle access to the supermarket on Shakespeare St will be from Spenser St.
Temporary footpaths will be available for pedestrians.

There is no vehicle access between Union St and Ossian St on Monday, 28 August. After this, it will re-open to traffic.
There will be temporary access at this intersection over the weekend of 26-27 August.

There is no vehicle access between Union St and Ossian St.

Work will be happening on 50 metre sections of the main street, from the High Street intersection, moving north.
Traffic will be able to travel in both directions but there will be safety measures and speed restrictions in place.
In the work area there will be no parking on both sides of the road. The location of pipe work means traffic lanes will be moved across and into the parking spaces on one side so that both traffic lanes can remain open. Pedestrian access to shops will still be available.

Work in Arthur St is continuing. The area around the intersection of Arthur St and Ajax St will be closed during working hours. Once work has moved past this corner, traffic will need to follow a priority give way.
