Start earmarking those household goods you no longer have a use for that someone else might have: Second Hand Sunday is coming up fast.
Second Hand Sunday is an annual event, where residents throughout the Clutha District can rehome their unwanted household goods. This year, it's on 4 October, and runs between 9am to 12pm.
As a council, we are keen supporters of the event because it builds community and reduces waste to landfill.
It works like a garage sale, but no money changes hands. It’s a great opportunity if you're planning a spring clean or looking to find some preloved treasures for your own home.
What's slightly different this year is that when you tick the boxes of the general items you have on offer, i.e., furniture (including outdoor furniture), electrical goods, books, household goods, clothes, building materials, toys and 'other', there's space on the form to itemise specifically what you're putting out: Saves time and fuel driving around, if people know exactly what you've got going free to a good home - and you too, if you're on the hunt. It's a win-win.
How to participate
Sign up online. You’ll find the registration form and more information on our website under: Second Hand Sunday - Clutha District Council
You'll need to register by Monday, 28 September for your address to make the list for the print advertisement and Facebook post that will go out a few days before the event.
Download and print the letterbox poster provided on the website page or pick up a copy from your community library. If you need any help, our community library staff will be happy to help.
What to put out
Anything from furniture, books, clothing, or leftover bits and pieces from building projects.
Please don't put out food and dangerous goods (chemicals, faulty electrical equipment, firearms) and definitely no rubbish. Put your items on your driveway before 9am. At 5pm remove the sign and pack up any items not taken.
