Temporary closure of Kākā Point public toilets and changing rooms
Temporary closure of Kākā Point public toilets and changing rooms for upgrades to existing facilities
The Kākā Point public toilets and changing rooms will be closed from Monday, 15 September to Saturday, 18 October 2025 while work takes place to replace the existing facilities with a new, modern toilet and changing room complex.
During this time, the nearest available public toilet will be at the Esplanade playground, approximately 250 metres from the current site. Clear signage will be in place to help direct people to these alternative facilities.
The $440,000 (excluding GST) project was approved June 2024 at the Long Term Plan decision meeting, with Council working in partnership with the Kākā Point Community Group. Once completed, the new facility will provide upgraded toilets and changing rooms on the existing site, better meeting the needs of locals and visitors.
Construction will involve demolition of the current block, site preparation, and installation of the new Exeloo facility, followed by landscaping and finishing work.
An official opening is being planned for Saturday 18 October 2025, and further details will be shared closer to the date.
In addition to these upgrades, works on the new carpark has also begun and the Council will provide updates on this progress when it’s available.
Clutha District Council thanks the community and visitors for their patience during this temporary closure and looks forward to welcoming everyone to the new facilities next month.
