Clutha Libraries Set to Launch New Digital System
Clutha District Libraries are excited to announce a major upgrade to their library services, with the introduction of a new library management system—Polaris by Clarivate.
This change marks a significant step forward in improving how the public interacts with the library, both in person and online. Polaris will replace the current system, Liberty, which has served the district since the late 1990s
“Our communities' needs have evolved, and this upgrade reflects our commitment to keeping pace,” says Debbie Duncan, Head of Libraries and Visitor Information. “Polaris offers a more modern, secure, and user-friendly experience for both our customers and our staff, and all within existing budgets”
Key Benefits for Library Users
From late August, library users will enjoy a brand-new digital experience through Polaris, including:
- A modern new website interface (Vega)
- A user-friendly mobile app available on both Apple and Google app stores
- Easy access to manage loans, reserve books, track reading history, and more—from your phone or device
Behind the scenes, library staff will also benefit from improved tools that simplify day-to-day operations, allowing more time to focus on supporting community engagement and literacy.
Important Dates and Information
To make the switch to Polaris, the current system will be offline from 19 to 26 August. During this time:
- Library users can still borrow items in person, but must bring their physical library card with them.
- Online services and some digital functionalities will be temporarily unavailable.
- Staff will be on hand to assist during the transition.
The new system will be set to go live from 26 August.
“We know change can sometimes be inconvenient, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding during this period,” says Debbie. “We’re confident the new system will be well worth the wait.”
