Precautionary heavy rain watch in place for Clutha
MetService has issued a heavy rain watch for the Clutha District, beginning at 6pm this evening (Wednesday 14 October) until 3pm tomorrow (Thursday 15 October).
Periods of heavy rain are forecast, and these amounts may approach warning criteria.
This is a precautionary Watch alert, with a moderate chance it will be upgraded to a Warning.
Another update is expected from Metservice at 9pm this evening. Council will be monitoring the situation overnight and will provide updates as needed.
There are precautions you can take to get ready in case the alert is upgraded to a warning.
Ensure gutters, spouting and downpipes are clear around your home to stop water from backing up.
Tie down or move loose objects like outdoor furniture, wheelie bins, and trampolines under cover where possible.
If your basement or low-lying area is prone to flooding, move items that could get damaged off the floor.
Avoid driving through floodwaters.
