State Highway 1/Union Street repair progresses

Update: SH1/Union Street repair – Friday 11 September 2026

Repairs to State Highway 1/Union Street in Milton have progressed well this week, with the asphalting almost complete between Springfield Road and Melville Avenue.

When this work is complete, the state highway can be re-opened to traffic, and the detour via Melville and Centennial avenues removed.

In the meantime, temporary repairs are continuing to take place on Centennial Ave to keep it safe and useable.

Once SH1 opens, our contractor Andrew Haulage 2011 Ltd, will start the drainage works on Melville Ave, which involves installing the new sewer line along the berm on the Union St/Melville Ave corner, and then progressing along the shoulder of SH1, from Melville Ave towards Park Rd.

We will provide a progress update on this work, which will future-proof Milton’s stormwater and wastewater infrastructure.
