Waitahuna, Balmoral, Tuapeka East – Boil Water Reminder
Council reminds people in Waitahuna and the Tuapeka East, Balmoral 1 and Balmoral 2 water schemes that a boil water notice is in place.
Separately, an aluminium advisory has been issued for Waitahuna, Tuapeka East, Balmoral 1 and Balmoral 2 rural water scheme consumers. You can read more about this advisory here.
About the boil water notice
This scheme is on a long-term boil water notice until the new Greenfield Water Scheme Project is commissioned, due to problems with treatment at the plant which are affecting the quality of treated water. The latest non-compliant E. Coli result (1 CFU/100 ml) was detected in the Balmoral 1 distribution network on 18 March 2024.
Council advises anyone using water from their tap for consumption (including teeth cleaning and food preparation such as washing fruit and vegetables) should boil it for 1 minute before it is used.
Improvements to address all treatment issues will require significant investment and the notice will not be lifted until this water treatment plant is decommissioned and water will instead come from the new Greenfield Water Scheme Project. Work on this project is underway and the new scheme is expected to be completed by late 2024.
