There has been a gas leak at Council originating from the
server room. Staff evacuated the building and the fire service
was called to assess the scene. A battery was removed from the
server room. Council staff are being assessed by medical staff
for any reaction. Most staff have been able to go home. It is
not expected that any public who had visited Council before
the building was evacuated were significantly exposed, however
if you are concerned you should see your medical professional.
The Council offices were closed as a precaution and until the
building could be cleared. The office will be closed for the
rest of the day. Whilst communications have been down for most
of the day Council's phones are now back up and running.
Papatowai Bridge in the Catlins will now be closed for major
repairs from Monday 29 February until 23 May 2016. This is
after the Papatowai Challenge takes place. There will be
detoursi in place. Council knows this will have an impact on
both locals and visitors.

Milton Pool Repairs
Work is progressing well at the pool and contractors have
completed the pipework and pool sealing work. We expect the
pool to be handed over to Council on Friday 12 February.
The pool will then need to be filled and the water heated
carefully. The pool may take up to two weeks to get up to
temperature depending on the weather. We expect it to be open
in late February and will keep you posted on the opening date.
