​Ceased Magazines

​​​​​Library users may be aware that some of our magazines ceased publication during lockdown when Bauer Media closed their NZ operation. The titles are:


NZ Fashion Quarterly


North and South

NZ Motorhome Caravans and Destinations

Your Home and Garden

While new issues are not being produced, older issues are available for lending


Borrowing: All items, except  magazines and  high demand books, are issued for three weeks. Fees will apply if items become overdue.

Renewals:  Items can be renewed, online, in person or over the phone.  After two renewals, bring the items to the library to extend the loan.  High demand books are issued for two weeks with no renewal.

Reservations: If an item is listed on our catalogue but is on loan or held at another branch we can hold it for you on its return. We will phone you when the item is available.

Overdue items:  To avoid overdue charges, please return or renew your loans by the due date. A reminder notice is emailed two working days before the item’s due date, and an overdue noticed emailed two working days after the due date. A second overdue notice will be sent once items are more than four weeks past their due date. Replacement costs are only charged if overdue items are not returned.

Rentals: Videos/DVD, Talking Books (free of charge to members with special needs) andJigsaw puzzles can be rented for a small fee.

Children's Services

Holiday Programmes:  These are held during school holidays. There is a small charge to cover the costs.

Summer Reading Programme: Held annually from December to early February throughout the Clutha District for children between the ages of 5 to 13 years old. Enquire at your local library for details.

Class and group visits:  Class and group visits are welcome on a regular basis or at other times as required. Please contact the children's librarian at Balclutha, or the branch libraries, to arrange a suitable time.

Housebound and Hospital Services

Library books and CDs can be selected and delivered to  people unable to visit the library themselves through illness or disability. A regular delivery service is also made to the residential homes and day hospital. Please contact your nearest library if you wish to be included in this service, or know someone who will benefit from it.

Interlibrary Loan Service

If a book is not available from our collection, we can often borrow it for you from another New Zealand Library for a small fee.
