Recycling restarts in Clutha

We have been able to gradually restart services and from next week, Council will start accepting recycling again.

Service Delivery Group Manager, Jules Witt, said that “For the week starting Monday 8 June we will be collecting your YELLOW recycling bin (only). We will be emptying green/red rubbish bins the following week. This will be the start of the normal cycle of green/red bins one week, and yellow bins the next.

Many of us used our recycling bins for general waste during lockdown, and we expect there to be a large amount of contamination in the first recycling collection. To deal with this, we will be sending the first week’s collection to Mt Cooee landfill. We know this is not ideal, and this is the only time we will take recycling to landfill.

If you are one of the people who has been working hard to put the right things in the yellow bin and if you are certain that all of your recycling is clean and meets the criteria for acceptance, then you may want to wait and put it out the following fortnight.”

For more information on what you can recycle, check under the lid of your yellow bin or visit www.cluthadc.govt.nz
