Council has temporarily suspended fluoridation of water supplies in Balclutha, Kaitangata, Milton and Tapanui for technical reasons.

Jules Witt, Group Manager Service Delivery, says that ‘This means that the residual level of fluoride in the water supplies is now too low to provide any therapeutic benefit. If people want to maintain the benefits of regular fluoridation it is important that they choose another method such as using fluoride toothpaste until Council is able to resume fluoridation of the supply.

Council staff are currently looking at all the options and issues about reinstating the service and will be reporting back to Council with the options to consider in the new year.’
