Second Hand Sunday

Do you have stuff you’d like to get rid of but it is too good to put in the rubbish or too bulky to take to your local second-hand store?

Council is once again holding its annual “Second Hand Sunday” event.

Waste Minimisation Officer Laura Gourley said the event would kick off at 9am on Sunday, October 6.

“Second Hand Sunday works like a garage sale, but no money changes hands. It is all about encouraging people to give away their unwanted stuff instead of paying to throw it in landfill" she said.

People wanting to get rid of stuff are asked to register their address with Council and put their items out at their gate on the Sunday from 9am. Registrations must be received before 8.00am on Monday 30 September.

Once you have registered your address, Council will advertise the list of addresses in local papers the week prior so people know where to look.

After registering, gather the items you want to give away and identify a suitable site on your property boundary - e.g. driveway or near your letter box.

On Sunday from 9am onwards, display the poster on your letter box and place items at the site no earlier than 9am.

Then at 5pm remove any items left as if they are left outside your property for extended periods you’ll be in breach of a bylaw.

For more information go to the Second Hand Sunday page and to register your address got to the online form.
