A team of Balclutha Centennial Pool lifeguards are off to Queenstown on Monday September 2 to compete in the National Pool Lifeguard Championships.

Group Manager Service Delivery Jules Witt said a team of four will be representing Clutha and have been putting in lots of practice for the competition.

“Teams from throughout New Zealand will be testing their rescue skills, everything from first aid knowledge, pool operations knowledge through to team work and leadership.

“Consequently the pool operating hours will be slightly reduced due to the limited number of lifeguards available,” Mr Witt said.

The reduced opening hours for the Balclutha Centennial Pool on Monday, September 2 and Tuesday, September 3 are 11 am till 8.15 pm.

The Clutha Team consists of all of the full time lifeguards, Jody Ward, Jolene Bellaney, Olivia Pirie and Olivia Stewart Groot.

“Over the past three months they have increased their regular training regime in preparation for the event, those that come swimming at lunch time may have seen the women in action,” he said.
