Clutha District’s Mayor, Councillors and staff will be out and about in the Catlins this summer talking to people about their aspirations for the area.
“You won’t miss us because we are hitting the road in a retro caravan and classic car and will be at various locations along the coast,” Mayor Bryan Cadogan said.
Mayor Cadogan said the caravan would allow Council to reach out to a wide range of people who enjoy The Catlins including locals, crib owners and visitors.
The feedback received will be used to help inform the Our Place Catlins Community Plan.
If you care about our community and want to help shape a brighter future for generations to come, then please get involved in this consultation process.
“Like many of you, I have aspirations for how The Catlins can be, both now and into the future, so I can’t stress enough the importance of what we’re trying to achieve here.”
Along with the caravan roadshow, Council has developed an Our Place Catlins Consultation document which is being delivered to residents and ratepayers this week.
It focuses on areas Council has flagged as being priorities for the area including:
- Landscape and the environment
- Opportunities and challenges for our communities
- Parks, reserves and playgrounds
- Responsible camping practice
- Managing the effects of climate change
- Our settlements and their facilities:
- Kaka Point & Romahapa
- Owaka, Pounawea, Newhaven & Jack’s Bay
- Papatowai, Maclennan, Tahakopa, Chaslands & Tautuku
Catlins Councillor Hilary McNab said she was pleased to see the process kick off for the Catlins and encouraged people to take the time to have their say.
She said that people can either fill in the consultation document that will be delivered to Catlins mailbox’s and return via FreePost, or online at Council’s website on the Consultation Page or else just pop along to one the many locations the caravan will be at during coming months.
The Our Place Catlins Community Plan follows on from Council’s Our Place Balclutha, Our Place Milton, Our Place Waihola community plans that have already been developed and are in the process of being actioned.
