Clutha District Council hopes to have the majority of the Pounawea Jetty opened by the end of the week.
Service Delivery Group Manager Jules Witt said the Jetty was closed during the November flooding event.
“The Jetty experienced some damage to the bracing at the landward end of the jetty and subject to the arrival of the required materials, we expect our contractors to have it repaired by the end of the week.
However the piles at the end platform were in a poor state and needed to be replaced.
“While access to the main part of the Jetty will be restored, unfortunately the platform at the end is unsafe and will either be removed or a barrier installed to prevent access until the piles are replaced.”
Mr Witt said this would not occur until late February at the very earliest.
“The majority of the Jetty will be open to locals and visitors for the Christmas/New Year holiday period but unfortunately the platform at the end will be out of action.”
