North Balclutha Subdivision naming competition

Clutha District Council is inviting locals to make their mark on the North Balclutha subdivision by taking part in a competition to name the new development.

Chief Executive Steve Hill said Council wanted local people to have a chance to suggest some names to be associated with the subdivision.

“They need to tell a consistent story because they will be used for the whole development, including street names and names for reserves”.

We are also asking the local schools to get involved and participate.

Council is delighted with the positive interest in the 27-hectare residential development, which is bordered by Johnston Road and McNeill Street and will have a variety of residential and lifestyle sections.

Roads, footpaths, cycle and walkways, including reserve park land, will also be part of the development and along with great views out to Kaka Point and the Nuggets, making the subdivision an appealing and friendly neighbourhood.

“The development is in keeping with the direction set in Council’s 10-year Long Term Plan, which provided for us to take a leadership role in driving our district’s economy and be proactive about promoting growth,” Mr Hill said.

Clutha District Council is calling for ideas on names for the following areas;

• Overall subdivision name (currently being called North Balclutha Subdivision)

• Three street names within the subdivision

• Two reserve land areas within the subdivision
