Time is running out for local candidates to step forward

Clutha District Council is reminding people they only have until Midday on Friday 12 August to get their nominations in for local body elections.

To date the Council has received:

  • [1] nomination for Mayor
  • [5] nominations to stand as a Councillor
  • [0] nominations for local boards
  • [0] nominations for community boards
  • [0] nominations for liquor licensing trusts.

Deputy Electoral Officer Alan Dickson said if you’re a New Zealand citizen, over 18 years of age and you’re on the electoral roll you can stand as a candidate.

“All you need is the desire to represent your community and make a difference in the Clutha District.”

Anyone wishing to stand as an elected member must be nominated by two people enrolled in the district or ward you intend to stand for, and pay a deposit of $200.

Nominations close at Noon on Friday 12 August.

Mr Dickson urged potential candidates to get their nominations in now.

“Early nominations give us time to ensure candidates have included everything on their application, as we aren’t able to provide an extension.”

Current nominations received:

Mayor Clutha; CADOGAN Bryan.

Councillor Clutha Valley Ward: COWIE Stewart.

Councillor West Otago Ward: HERBERT John.

Councillor West Otago Ward: KENNEDY Michele.

Councillor Catlins Ward: McNAB Hilary.

Councillor Balclutha Ward: GRAHAM Bruce.
