Local Government Amalgamation Survey
We are asking our Clutha District residents their views on local government amalgamation by taking part in a survey that will be open for the next two weeks.
Clutha District Mayor Jason (Jock) Martin says he wants to give people the opportunity to engage in every step of the way after Government recently announced its requirement to simplify local government.
“While a recent Otago Mayoral Forum Survey was made available to people, doing our own Clutha District survey will try to ensure we capture as many points of view as possible,” Mayor Martin says.
While it is early days, and no decisions have been made, the deadline the Government has given of three months means we have to move quickly to begin talks, he says.
“At this stage, we don’t know exactly what the best outcome for Clutha District and our residents will be. However, with a hand on my heart I want to be able to capture as much feedback and insight from the community as possible, to help guide future decisions.”
The Clutha District survey is open from today (Tuesday 16 June) until 5pm on Tuesday, 30 June 2026.
It can be found on our council website, social media, and hard copies will be available at our office in Balclutha as well as The Clutha isite and libraries across the district.
