New Public Toilets and Changing Rooms to open at Kākā Point

The new Kākā Point public toilets and changing rooms will be officially opened on Friday 24 October at 2.30pm.

Clutha District Council Mayor Elect Jock Martin said the project had been a true community effort, led by the dedicated Kākā Point Community Group.

“The group has done an outstanding job bringing this project to life and it’s great to see these modern facilities that will be open in time for summer,” Mayor Martin said.

The $440,000 (excluding GST) project was approved in June 2024 as part of the Long Term Plan decisions, with Council partnering closely with the Kākā Point Community Group to deliver the upgrade. The new complex replaces the old toilets and changing rooms on the same site, providing modern, accessible facilities that better meet the needs of locals and visitors alike.

The Kākā Point working group for the toilets and changing rooms says “it has been a very long journey to get to where we are today which involved a lot of meetings, time and effort. With thanks to the Mayor and Councillors at the time, for their support with funding for the project from which we now proudly have an amazing facility for all the community and visitors to use.”

Construction included the demolition of the old block, site preparation, installation of the new Exeloo facility, and landscaping and finishing work.

Work has also begun on improvements to the nearby carpark, with further updates to be provided as progress continues.

Council thanks the Kākā Point community and visitors for their patience during the temporary closure and looks forward to welcoming everyone to enjoy the new facilities.
