Carpark sealing work to begin at Te Pou Ō Mata-Au War Memorial & Community Centre
Work to seal the public carpark at Te Pou Ō Mata-Au, Clutha District War Memorial & Community Centre (TPŌMA) is set to begin next week, with completion expected by November 2025.
Clutha District Council Deputy Chief Executive Jules Witt said the project represents the final step in the development of the community facility, which officially opened in August 2023.
“It’s great to be moving into the final phase of the project and completing the carpark, which will make a huge difference in terms of accessibility and ease of use for everyone visiting TPŌMA,” Mr Witt said.
A budget of $690K has been allocated for the project, which includes resealing works in 3 years’ time. The sealed carpark, when finished, will feature marked spaces for more than 70 vehicles, including dedicated areas for buses, motorhomes, and four mobility parks.
Clearwater Civil has been contracted to carry out the work and will complete the project in stages to ensure continued access and minimal disruption to users. Early works will include pre-sealing activity such as installation of new lighting, as well as raising and levelling sections of the carpark before applying chip seal to the entire surface.
We aim to have the carpark remain open to the public throughout the project, excluding heavy vehicles. Some parking areas may be temporarily unavailable while work is underway. There may also be temporary closures of the Charles Street footpath alongside the carpark when required for safety, however, Council will provide advance notice of any closures if required.
Council and Clearwater Civil will be working closely with TPŌMA throughout the project to ensure minimal disruptions during events with high foot traffic.
