New destination toilets set to open in Milton
New destination toilets opening in Milton next week are expected to bring relief for travellers and have flow on benefits for the town.
The toilets will be officially opened at a ceremony on Friday 28 April, with similar destination toilets still under construction, close to completion, in Balclutha.
Clutha District Mayor Bryan Cadogan said the new toilet blocks will bring benefits for both towns.
“They give people another reason to stop, and being located in the heart of the town there’s a greater chance people will also spend time and money at the surrounding businesses.”
The new facilities are modern, safe and easily accessible. The Milton toilets cost around $660,000 and the Balclutha toilets were approximately $683,000. A funding contribution of $420,000 has been awarded from government’s Tourism Infrastructure Fund.
Further landscaping and paving improvements for the area around the Milton toilets will happen alongside the main street upgrade. Milton’s old toilet block will be demolished and Balclutha’s temporary toilets will be relocated.
