Making a splash for the Far North District on Otago Anniversary Day
Otago Anniversary Day will also be a chance to help the Far North District in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle, with Clutha District Council donating all casual pool entry fees at Balclutha Centennial Pool to the Far North District Mayoral Relief Fund.
Clutha District Mayor Bryan Cadogan is encouraging anyone looking for an activity on Otago Anniversary Day to visit the pool.
“I encourage people to get along to the pool for a swim - it’s a great chance to enjoy a swim with your family while also doing good by offering support to the Far North community which is still recovering from the effects of Cyclone Gabrielle.”
All casual pool entry fees paid on Monday 20 March will be given to the Far North Mayoral Relief Fund.
Balclutha Centennial Pool traditionally has a good turnout on public holidays, and it is hoped people will turn out to show support for the Far North District.
There will also be a fundraising raffle for free swim passes during the week of 20-27 March.
Clutha is taking part in the Adopt-a-Community campaign which matches councils unaffected by Cyclone Gabrielle with a council and community badly hit. The focus is on channeling support and funds directly to those affected in the Far North.
Balclutha Centennial Pool will be open from 6am-8pm on Otago Anniversary Day (Monday 20 March 2023).
Mayor Bryan Cadogan will also be behind the grill this week, with a fundraising barbecue from 11.30am at Countdown Balclutha on Wednesday, 13 March. Sausages will be available in exchange for a gold coin donation.
Donations can also be made to the Far North Mayoral Relief Fund.
