Voting opens in the 2022 local council elections
Clutha residents are being encouraged to have their say by voting in this year’s local elections.
Clutha District Council Chief Executive Steve Hill says, “Voting is your opportunity to choose who represents you and your community”.
“If you care about Clutha, get involved – now is the time to vote. “
Voting papers are being mailed to enrolled voters and all papers are expected to be delivered by Wednesday 21 September. People who have not received their papers after this date should contact Council on 0800 801 350.
Elections are being held for Clutha District Council, the West Otago Community Board, and local licensing trusts. As the number of candidates did not exceed the number of vacancies, the Lawrence Tuapeka Community Board and Clutha Health were elected unopposed.
“I encourage people to read the information that comes out with the voting forms and do your own research.
The voting period is three weeks but to be counted all completed voting papers must be received by the council before midday on Election Day, Saturday 8 October 2022. To ensure your vote counts, allow time for your papers to get through the postal system. Papers need to have arrived by 12 noon on 8 October.
Special votes are available throughout the voting period for people who have not received their voting papers for reasons from the address on the roll is out of date through to people who enrolled, but after the printed roll closed.
Special voting packs can be requested from the Rosebank Office and community libraries located in Owaka, Tapanui, Milton and Lawrence or phone 0800 801 350.
If you live in one area and pay rates on a property in another you may qualify to vote in both areas. Contact Council to see if you qualify.

Use the orange pre-paid envelope sent with voting documents to return by post or drop it to these council offices and community libraries:
- Owaka - 10 Campbell Street, Owaka

- Milton - 124-126 Union Street, Milton
- Lawrence - 5 Peel Street, Lawrence
- Rosebank Office - 1 Rosebank Terrace, Balclutha
