Council to be out and about in Kaitangata
Clutha District’s Mayor, Councillors and staff will be out and about in Kaitangata throughout February and March talking to people about their aspirations for the area. Starting with the chance to give us your feedback this Saturday as Council staff will be at the Kaitangata ‘Pool Party’ open day from 11am-12pm.
Mayor Cadogan said it was Kaitangata’s turn to go through the formal process of collectively determining what the town needs as part of the ‘Our Place’ consultation.
“I have been so proud of the belief, determination and success that Kaitangata has shown. You have already firmly established yourself as a positive, family-focused community that still offers a start for young ones and a prosperous future for all. This is the time to push things to the next level.”
The feedback received will be used to help develop the Our Place Kaitangata Community Plan.
To gather feedback Council will be holding consultation events at a series of venues around Kaitangata, including:
- 20 February - Event 1: Kaitangata Pool Party Open Day. We’ll be there from 11 am to 12 pm.
- 24 February – Event 2: Victoria Park Sports Grounds, 12 pm – 2 pm.
- 27 February – Event 3: Kaitangata Community Centre, 11 am – 1 pm.
- 3 March – Event 4: Kaitangata BMX Track, 5 pm – 6 pm.
- 12 March – Event 5: Crescent Bar and Grill, 5pm – 7 pm.
- 13 March – Event 6: Water Street Boat Ramp, 7 am – 11 am.
- 31 March – Event 7: Kaitangata Community Centre, 4 pm – 7 pm.
While Council recognises that COVID-19 Alert levels might change, the consultation events will still proceed under COVID-19 level 2 restrictions, but we will ensure safe distancing and hygiene protocols are in place.
Along with the consultation events, Council has developed an Our Place Kaitangata Consultation document which is being delivered to residents and ratepayers this week.
Have a read, fill out the feedback form and return via FreePost, or online at Council’s website on the Consultation Page or else just pop along to one the many consultation events and deliver in person.
It focuses on areas Council has flagged as being priorities for the area including:
- River Access
- Walking and Cycling
- Community Facilities
- Future options for the Kaitangata Pool
- Opportunities for Development
- Parks and Reserves
If you care about our community and want to help shape a brighter future for generations to come, then please get involved in this consultation process.
The Our Place Kaitangata follows on from the Our Place Lawrence/Tuapeka consultation, which was held in 2020, and then follows on from Council’s Our Place Balclutha, Our Place Milton, Our Place Waihola and Our Place Catlins community plans that have already been developed and are in the process of being actioned.
