Ōwaka Transfer Station First Strike Warning

The Ōwaka Transfer Station has now received its first strike warning because of contamination.
Items found included: glass wine bottles, dirty food containers, liquids still in bottles, coffee cups and lids, dog poo bags and parts of a wooden structure dropped off.
Our transfer stations are there to make recycling easier for everyone, but they can only stay open if they’re used correctly.
Please help us keep this transfer stations open by only dropping off accepted household recycling items and making sure everything is clean and sorted correctly.
Residents can drop off clean paper, cardboard, plastics (grades 1, 2, 5) aluminium and tin cans at the five sites. No glass will be accepted, nor will plastic lids.
We know that Clutha residents are looking forward to glass recycling and we are working on how this service will look but it is unlikely to be available until 2027.
For right now, the transfer stations at Clinton, Lawrence, Milton, Ōwaka and Tapanui do not accept glass and operate under a three-strike system.
If a station receives three strikes for contamination or misuse, it will have to close.
