Changes to KiwiRail schedules around Balclutha & Finegand

KiwiRail has changed its schedule to service Silver Fern Farms Finegand, beginning Monday 16 February 2026.

Trains will now be in operation during the day, between 10am and 1pm. Until recently, trains mainly operated at night from 10pm.

People will notice an increase in train traffic during this time at the two crossings – High Street in Balclutha and Yorston Road near Silver Fern Farms, which both intersect with the Owaka Highway/Southern Scenic Route.

This will affect northbound and southbound travel, and people are advised to plan their journeys accordingly.

As always, care should be taken at rail crossings. Expect trains at any time of day.
