Balclutha Centennial Pool closed - update on reopening
Balclutha pool update #1
Repair work is progressing at the Balclutha Centennial Pool and we hope to open during the week beginning March 1 on a date still to be confirmed.
The reason the pool was out of action was that the auger and drive shaft that fed coal to the boiler broke completely – this has never happened before. This requires a new custom auger and drive shaft to be built and shipped to Balclutha for installation to enable the boiler to operate.
Clutha District Council Service Delivery Group Manager Jules Witt said the new auger and drive shaft would be fitted as soon as possible after it arrived in Balclutha and then we would be able to start the boiler and reheat the pool.
“At this stage it is looking favourable for the pool to be reopened before the end of next week, but the pool maybe slightly cooler than normal, while the pool continues to reheat,” Mr Witt said.
The Milton pool remains open and will be operating its usual hours:
Monday to Friday | 6.00am - 9.00am and 12.00pm - 8.00pm |
Saturday | 1.00pm to 4.30pm |
Sunday | 10.30am -12 noon and 1.00 - 4.30pm |
++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Unfortunately, we have had a mechanical breakdown affecting our boiler which means we will have to close to the public until we can get it repaired.
At this stage we regret to advise that we expect the closure could last up to three weeks but an update will be issued next Monday 22 February. Updates will also be posted to our social media (Facebook) pages and to our app, Antenno.
