The Clutha District Libraries Summer Reading Challenge is designed to encourage and promote reading. It is free, open to everyone in the Clutha District and all completed Challenge cards go into the district prize draw for a gift basket of locally sourced products.
You can complete multiple challenge cards which will earn you more vouchers, more books and multiple entries into the district prize draw.
Key dates:
- Registrations open: 16 November 2020
- Challenges start: 1 December 2020
- Challenges finish: 31 January 2021
Completed Challenge cards to be returned to your local library by Friday, 5th February 2021.
The books read can come from anywhere eg home, school, library and can be fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, magazines, and can also include eBooks, eAudio and audiobooks.
Reading for the Preschool and Children categories can be:
- On your own
- 'Read with Me' (for those not yet reading on their own)
- Family reading
- Shared reading
Going away for the holidays?
You can still participate in the programme – Keep working through your Challenge cards and once you are back home come to the library to update your card.
How does it Work?
Preschool
As you complete each activity mark it off your Challenge Card.
When all the activities on page 1 have been completed, bring your Challenge card to the library and receive your reward. Choose one of the following; a CDC Swim voucher, a CDL DVD voucher or a STEM activity kit.
Complete all the activities on page 2, bring your Challenge form back to the library and receive your book prize.
Children - 5-12 years of age
1 square = 1 book or 1 activity.
As you complete an activity write the activity number in a square. As you complete a book which includes eBooks and eAudio write the title on the back of the Challenge card and note this in a square. At least two books per level must be read.
Complete Level 1 bring your Challenge card to the library and receive your reward. Choose one of the following; a CDC Swim voucher, a CDL DVD voucher or a STEM activity kit.
Finish Level 2 then bring your Challenge Card to the library and receive your book prize.
Teens and Adults – 13 and over
As you finish reading an item cross off a square – look out for the bonus squares where you can claim free books from the sales table and other vouchers - Teens: a CDC Swim voucher or CDL DVD voucher - Adults: a free reserve voucher.
You do not need to cross off all the squares on the card to complete the programme.
When you return your Challenge Card you will receive a $20.00 book voucher
