Clutha District Libraries Summer Reading Programme

The Summer Reading Programme is designed to encourage children to enjoy reading and is open to all children in the Clutha District aged 0 -13 years. It's free!

Reading for this programme starts as soon as school finishes.

Reading can be:

  • on your own
  • 'read with me' (for those not yet reading on their own)
  • family reading
  • shared reading

Going away for the holidays?

Your child can still participate in the programme – they keep reading and recording their books and once they are back home come to the library to update their folder

How does it work?

1. Children decide on how many books they can read during the holidays - this is their reading goal.

2. The books can come from anywhere e.g. home, school, library and the books can be fiction and/or non-fiction and can include ebooks.

3. Once they have finished each book they write the author and title in the folder and an adult initials it.

4. Children bring along their reading folder to the library to collect stickers for each book they have read.

5. Once a child reaches their halfway mark they bring their folder to the Library and choose either a swim voucher or a DVD voucher, which they can redeem at any Library in the Clutha District

6. When the child has reached their reading goal they bring their completed folder to the Library and receive the last of their stickers, and choice between a pen, a pad or a lenticular cup reward.

7. Completed folders can be brought in on or before the 9th February 2018.

 8. All children who reach their reading goal will receive an invitation to the Prize Giving.
