Clutha District Council Media Release
18 November 2016
Like many of you, the staff here at Clutha District Council have been thinking about those in Kaikoura and North Canterbury affected by Monday's big shake and the continuing aftershocks.
Today we held a Red & Black Staff Mufti Day to raise some funds for the earthquake recovery effort.
There is widespread damage in many areas but we're donating our funds to the Kaikoura District Council Earthquake Relief Fund: http://www.kaikoura.govt.nz/latest-news/earthquake-update-3/
Clutha District Council has also sent two of our staff members up to North Canterbury, including Kaikoura, to help with the recovery efforts there.
Once again our thoughts go out to all those affected and our thanks go out to all those volunteers, members of the public, civil defence staff and emergency services who are helping to get these communities back on their feet.
The following is the latest message from the national civil defence team about donated goods:
People are being asked NOT to donate goods to the affected
regions at this stage. It's creating more work for the people trying to help.
Relief funds have been set up, including the Red Cross
Appeal, and donating money to these is a good way to show your support.
You can also help by checking on your family, neighbours and
anyone who might be feeling isolated across the country. Continue to support
each other and ask for help if you need it.
