The Local
Government elections for the Clutha District Council,
Otago Regional Council and the new Southern District Health Board are held every
three years, on the second Saturday in October. In 2010 they are being
held on 9 October 2010.
The
elections will be held by postal vote. The
Clutha District Council and
Otago Regional Council will be elected under the
First Past the Post (FPP) system, while the Southern
District Health Board elections will be conducted under the Single Transferable
Vote (STV) system.

Electoral Roll
A copy of the Clutha District Electoral Roll is kept
at each of the following places and is available for public inspection until
Friday the 20th of August 2010 during normal working hours.

Clutha District Council offices and Service Centres
at Balclutha, Milton, Lawrence, Tapanui and Owaka.
NZ Post Ltd agencies at Clinton, Clydevale, Kaka
Point, Kaitangata and Waihola.
Any alterations to the residential roll of electors
should be made:

by completing the appropriate form at any Post Shop;
or
-
by telephoning 0800 ENROLNOW (0800 367 656); or
-
by accessing the Electoral Enrolment Centre website
at www.elections.org.nz.
Voting documents will only be sent to those whose
names are included on the electoral roll, and to the postal address given.
Voting
The local authority elections are your chance to
have a say in decisions the council and health board make that affect us all.
You will need to be enrolled to be ale to vote in the election. Click
on the image to the above to check your enrolment details.
The elections will be held by a
postal vote and voting papers will be sent out to all electors between 17 and 22
September. Voting papers must be returned no later than Noon on Saturday 9
October (Election Day).
People who will be out of the
country between the time that papers are posted out and election day will only
be able to vote if their voting papers can be posted to them (by a friend) and
they can get them back in time
Special votes may be
claimed by electors who have lost, spoilt or destroyed their ordinary voting
documents which they have received in the post. Special votes may also be
claimed by persons who have applied to be enrolled but who have not received
their ordinary voting documents in the post.
