Council
registers a number of different sorts of premises under either the Local
Government Act 1974 or the Health (Registration of Premises) Regulations 1966.
This is an annual process and reminders are sent out to local businesses during
the end of February.
Hawkers are required to
register with the Council under powers conferred by the Local Government Act
1974.
Food businesses,
Hairdressers, Camping Grounds, Offensive Trades and Mortuaries are all required
to register annually with the Council. The fees for such registration are
variable, depending upon the risk rating for the business. All businesses are
categorised and then risk rated into either high, medium or low risk categories.
This rating reflects the adequacy of the premises being used, the type of food
handling involved and the standards of management.
The nature of premises
such as Hairdressers, Camping Grounds, Offensive Trades and Mortuaries is such
that the inspection frequencies for these is set at a lower level than are
applied to food premises.
Please see our
Publications page for application forms.
The Council firmly
believes that local businesses should be supported and assisted in order to meet
their legal responsibilities. Please see our page on
Food Hygiene
Inspections for more information regarding the Council's policy towards
premises inspections.
