Friday 6 August 2010 New Community Coordinator brings wealth of experience to role Clutha’s new Community Coordinator will already be a familiar face to many of the local community groups and organisations she will be working with. Jean Proctor has been employed by Council to the Community Coordinator position vacated by Megan Burke last month. Mrs Proctor brings a wealth of experience to the role with over 20 years employment in community-focused positions, including the past four years as Community Coordinator for Kaitangata and Districts Promotions. Mrs Proctor said she was looking forward to using her existing community development skill set to extend existing relationships with community groups and organisations in the wider Clutha District. The Community Coordinator position involves assisting and advising community groups with issues like funding applications, strategic planning, meeting procedures, utilising the event calendar on the Clutha Country website, and much more. Mrs Proctor will be based part-time at Development House in Balclutha, and will also continue in her role with Kaitangata and Districts Promotions on a part-time basis. Council’s District Development Manager Julie Pearse said Council was fortunate to be able to secure someone with Jean’s skills and experience. “Jean’s role with Kaitangata and Districts Promotions means that she already has strong relationships with many community groups throughout the district. She will be touching base with community groups over the next month or so to introduce herself in the Community Coordinator role and see how she can help ensure they make the most of the various community development resources on offer,” Mrs Pearse said.
