Thursday 10 June 2010 Council reappoints Chief Executive
Following advertising for the vacancy of Chief Executive, the Clutha District Council is pleased to announce it has today reappointed incumbent Chief Executive Charles Hakkaart for a further term of five years, commencing 1 July 2010.
Mr Hakkaart has held this position since 2005. Under the Local Government Act 2002, a Chief Executive of a local authority may not be appointed for a term of more than five years. Once this expires, they may either be reappointed for a second term of two years or the Council may choose to advertise the vacancy for a five year term.
Council chose this second option and the position was advertised last month, attracting four applications from within New Zealand and Australia.
In announcing Mr Hakkaart as the successful applicant, Mayor Juno Hayes said Council was pleased to recognize the contribution Mr Hakkaart has made over the last five years and wished to continue the direction made under his leadership.
“Mr Hakkaart’s local government experience and skills and his commitment to the Clutha District and its communities made him the leading candidate. I am pleased that we have been able to retain a person of his calibre,” said Mayor Hayes.
