Milton/Bruce Ward flooding update, 2pm Monday 31 May
Most roads closed due to the weekend’s flooding event in the Milton/Bruce area have now reopened.
Bull Creek Road remains closed due to a culvert washout. Temporary alternative access is currently being constructed and a detour road is expected to be opened by the end of today.
Johnson St, in Milton, at the corner of Cowper St, is closed due to an unauthorised trench being dug in the road.
Titri Road, Young Road, Taieri Ferry Road, and Berwick Road, all near Waihola, are currently closed due to flooding.
Elliotvale Road and Toko Mouth Road are now open with caution due to scouring on the road. Butts Road has reopened.
All other roads are open. However, scouring, pot holes and debris still exist in many areas throughout the district and Council advises all motorists to take extreme caution, particularly in the Milton/Bruce area.
Roading staff continue to assess and repair damage, although the cost of damage to roads will not be known for some time.
Over 60mm rain fell in the area overnight Friday, on top of heavy rain last week.
Civil Defence did not evacuate any properties in the Milton area, however, some people self-evacuated as a precaution. There were no reports of major damage to property.
