Public meeting regarding proposed Clutha Recreation Centre

Five netball/multipurpose indoor courts are included in the facility, which will be built on the area now occupied by the Dreaver Courts in central Balclutha. Other features include a fitness gym to replace the gym at the Balclutha Centennial Pool, office space for Sport Clutha, consultation rooms for physiotherapists and other health professionals, storage space for individual club use, changing rooms and toilets.

The group planning the centre wants feedback and suggestions from the community before design plans are finalised.

The estimated cost of the proposed facility is about $4 million. Council has agreed to provide 30% of the cost of the facility (up to $1.2 million) subject to the following conditions:

The proposed centre getting 100% commitment from proposed key user groups, particularly netball.

The community group overseeing the proposal secures the remaining 70% of the funds needed.

Long Term Plan consultation confirming support for the facility (already confirmed).
