Lifting of Clydevale-Pomahaka and Clinton boil water notice
Clutha District Council is pleased to advise that the long-standing ‘boil water’ notice on the Clydevale-Pomahaka and Clinton water supplies will be lifted on Friday 9 October 2009.
Water Services Manager Hank Stocker said the boil water notice has been in place for several years due to a previously poor source of water quality and difficulties with treatment.
However, following a major upgrade in 2007, the new source from bore fields near the Clutha River is now yielding consistently good quality water, which is much easier to sterilise by chlorination.
“Previous problems with the chlorination system have now been solved and due to the upgraded water source and treatment, customers on the Clydevale-Pomahaka and Clinton water supplies will no longer be advised to boil drinking water prior to consumption, from October 9,” Mr Stocker said.
Prior to ceasing to boil their water, all customers on these schemes are advised to clean and flush their household water tanks to remove any sediment which may have built up. Customers should also ensure that their tank lid is in good condition and secure, and that any openings to the tank are sealed to prevent contaminants and other vermin from entering.
Mr Stocker said Council has already sent newsletters to all properties on the water schemes advising them of this process.
However, if anyone has not received a newsletter or has any other questions they are encouraged to contact Council, he said.
