‘Make your mark - design a bookmark’
Clutha District Libraries is calling on local children to ‘make their mark’ and design a bookmark as part of Library Week 2009.
Library Week, August 10-16, is a week-long celebration of libraries and librarianship which recognises the important role libraries play in our community.
Council’s Children and Teens Librarian Vicki Woodrow said she was excited to announce that as part of this year’s Library Week, Clutha Libraries will be running a bookmark design competition for local children.
Mrs Woodrow said children would be asked come up with their own bookmark designs, with the winning entries to have their artwork printed on new library bookmarks for young adults and children.
“There will be two winning entries from each of the four age categories (under fives, 5-7, 8-12, 13 and over), so we’re looking forward to receiving plenty of creative and original designs,” she said.
Designs could be made either by hand, or by computer. Entry templates are available from all Clutha libraries, or are available for downloading online by clicking here.
Entries are open as of today and close on Wednesday August 12, with the winners to be announced during Library Week on Friday August 14.
Clutha District Libraries will be holding two other children’s events to celebrate Library Week.
Local radio announcer Lorraine McLean will be reading Itiiti’s Gift by New Zealand author Melanie Drewery at a special story time at the Balclutha Library at 11am on Thursday 13 August.
Meanwhile, preschoolers are being asked to draw their favourite book characters on a piece of A4 paper and return it to the Balclutha Library by Wednesday 12 August to be in with a chance to win a prize.
More details are available from your local library. |
