Wednesday 24 June 2009 Milton sewage treatment plant contract awarded The Clutha District Council has awarded Delta Utility Services Ltd a $2.2 million contract for the construction of major upgrades to the Milton Sewage Treatment Plant after considering four tenders from contractors around the country. Manager District Assets Jules Witt said the upgrades will provide extra capacity and improved treatment to reduce the impact of the discharge on the Tokomairiro River. The project has been undertaken in partnership with the Department of Corrections and caters for the Otago Corrections Facility and future growth of the township. Mr Witt said Council recently obtained a new 35-year consent for the plant to continue to discharge to the Tokomairiro River. The upgrades are designed to meet the new consent conditions and include ultraviolet disinfection, improved nutrient removal and a new diffuser for discharge to the river. The upgrades have been designed by Pattle Delamore Partners Ltd, and the project is being managed on behalf of Council by Octa Associates Ltd. Construction will begin shortly, and is scheduled for completion in January 2010. ENDS |
