Tuesday 9 June 2009 Tuapeka Mouth Bridge on track for late June reopening The Clutha District Council says repairs to the Tuapeka Mouth Bridge are still on track to allow the bridge to reopen in late June. The bridge, linking Tuapeka Mouth Road and Tuapeka West Road at Tuapeka Mouth, has been closed since 14 April 2009 to allow for the replacement of steel beams which had experienced significant deterioration due to rusting. Council Manager District Assets Jules Witt said that there had been some recent delays to repairs due to high river levels and the new steel beams. However, contractors would be calling in additional labour and may be working around the clock to ensure the bridge was open before the end of the month. Mr Witt said that at this stage, the bridge would reopen to traffic late on Friday 26 June as originally programmed. “There may still be some minor delays experienced by the travelling public for around a week from this time to allow for the completion of some work,” he said. “However, it is expected the bridge shall be safe and accessible to motorists from late on 26 June.” ENDS |
