MEDIA RELEASE - ST JOHN

13 May 2009

Clutha mayor supports St John campaign to recruit volunteers

St John is delighted to have the support of Clutha mayor, Juno Hayes, to recruit volunteer ambulance officers.

The campaign, which commenced at the beginning of May, hopes to inform the public of the need to recruit volunteer ambulance officers for the Clutha district.

Clutha Mayor, Juno Hayes, believes the campaign is one that deserves as much community support as possible, given the service St John provides.

“St John provides an essential medical service to our community and we have a responsibility to support it whenever possible,” says Mayor Hayes.

Mayor Hayes knows first-hand the importance of volunteers to St John; he was a St John volunteer in the Milton community himself for over 20 years.

“There is certainly a lot of satisfaction to be gained from helping others,” he says. “St John ambulance volunteers are an integral part of our community and I’m sure there are people out there who can help them.”

St John Area Committee Chairman, Colin Ward, welcomes the mayor’s support.

“The support of our mayor is wonderful to have and we are very grateful for it,” says Mr Ward.

“St John volunteers are part of a very special group of people who provide emergency medical care to people in their own communities.  We would like to encourage people to get in touch with us to find out more about this unique opportunity.”
