CLUTHA DISTRICT YOUTH COUNCIL MEMBERS
2010 |
Brendan Morrison (Chairman, workplace representative)
Brendan is 20 years
old and lives and works at Inch Clutha on a dairy farm with his family.
He attended
Kaitangata Primary School and then South Otago High School where he was a school
councillor and was involved in running school activities. Outside of school,
Brendan was the student representative on the Board of Trustees, which he says
allowed him to gain a lot of knowledge on how the school worked, and experience
in working in a different team environment, making decisions, and trying to
introduce new things.
In 2006, Brendan
attended the Youth Forum held in Balclutha which focused on how to make the
Clutha District a better place for youth. He says he hopes his involvement on
the Youth Council to try and get some of those ideas put into place, or come up
with new ideas to make the Clutha District a better place for young people.
Todd Murray (Deputy Chair, Blue Mountain College)
Daniel Fenton (workplace representative)
Danae Bradley (Blue Mountain College)
Hi, I'm Danae
Bradley and I am 16 years old. I am in Year 12 and attend Blue Mountain College
in Tapanui. I have lived in Tapanui for most of my life and enjoy living in the
small friendly community. This will be my first year on the Clutha District
Youth Council and I am really looking forward to finding out more about what is
happening in the area and to help to give youth more of an opinion on what is
happening. It is also a great chance to meet new people from all over the area
and to learn more about the processes involved in the council.
Hayden Cockburn (The Catlins Area School)
Terry Batt (Lawrence Area School)
Brianna Watt (Lawrence Area School)
Hi my name is
Brianna Watt and I am from Lawrence. I am in Year 12 at Lawrence Area School and
am deputy Head Girl. By joining the Youth Council I am hoping to make a
difference within my community through changes such as getting new footpaths
created, or new signs for our town. I also hope to become more confident in
public speaking which will help in making a difference throughout the Clutha
District. I hope to help be a part of making a change in the youth through the
community.
Meghan Bennett (South Otago High School)
Howdy Clutha
Country my name is Meghan Bennet and this is my first year as a member of the
Clutha District Council Youth Council.
I am 17 years old
and live in Warepa, a small village 10 minutes south of Balclutha towards
Clinton.
I have a brother
Morgan and a sister Kate and obviously two parents Stuart and Shona. I have a
great after school job at Development House and enjoy Soccer, Walking,
Reading, Fishing, traveling and chilling with friends.
I joined the Youth
Council as I enjoy getting out into the community and doing things that I know
will benefit the District and to find out and understand what goes on backstage
in the District. I believe its a good chance to get out and about meeting new
people who have a one (or more) similar interests in Clutha Country.
Natasha Cameron (South Otago High School)
I'm Natasha Cameron, 16 years old and a year 12 student at
South Otago High School. I was born on the 23 July and am the oldest child in my
family of 5. I have a younger sister, Eilish, who is 14 years old and my brother
Josh, is 12. I have lived on a farm all my life and been living in South Otago
since I was 7. Most of my primary school years were spent at Waiwera South, a
really great little school. My interests include netball, touch, art, dance and
tramping.
In becoming a member of the Clutha District Youth Council, I
have been given a chance to push myself outside my comfort zone. I hope to grow
in knowledge in how local council affects the community I live in, and am
looking foward to meeting and working with new people. I hope to bring new ideas
to the youth of the Clutha District to let them know that people care and help
provide opportunities for the youth within the community :).
Christiaan Faber (Tokomairiro High School)
Hi my
name is Christiaan Faber.
I live
in Milton and am in 7th form at Tokomairiro High School.
This is my
secondyear as a Youth
Councillor.
I am
passionate about sport, especially athletics, rugby and tennis.
I represented my school
two
years in a row at the South Otago Secondary School Athletics and also once at
the South Island Athletics at Timaru last year. In my spare time I like to
ride motorbikes and go fishing with my friends.
I see
the Youth Council as a opportunity to get insight on what is happening in the
District and report it back to my school. This year I hope to find out
more about the Clutha District Council and how it operates.
